So What

On Thursday morning I posted a video on my Instagram page (@FTGGirls) titled “So What!” (see video below) and I felt the need to further elaborate on the topic her on the For the Good Girls Blog.

This idea that in order for us to operate or just to make a sound decision in life must always consist of getting the approval of others has to change. I’m not suggesting for you to dismiss the feelings of your spouse, totally forget about your children or to just go out here and do whatever comes to mind. However, what I am saying is that when we have come to a place in our lives where God wants to use us or He’s making room for our gifts to be applied, than we don’t have to get the approval from others in order for us to move forward. If we are seeking wise council from others, then that’s one thing. But to always find the need to get the approval from others is not what God intends for us to do.

Let’s just be honest!!! Some of us will call every friend and family member in our contacts, that we deem to be “wise”, just to see if they approve of our decisions. We’re so often looking for “confirmation.” Can I tell you that is a smack in the face to God? He has trusted us enough to accomplish His will, but we don’t have enough trust in Him to just move on it. I’m not saying that everything God has called us to do requires immediate physical action, but it could just be simply writing the idea or vision down in a notebook. I find it interesting how we cry out “USE ME LORD” and then when He decides to give us an assignment, we need our peanut gallery to confirm it first just to be sure it’s what we’re supposed to be doing.

One of my favorite scriptures in the Bible is Proverbs 3:5-6. It reads, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall [a]direct your paths.” This is just a reminder that even when you do not understand what He has called you to do, what your next move should be or if you’re making the right decision, that we don’t have to figure it out on our own because He is there at all times to direct our paths. Trusting God is so much more than in the things that WE want Him to move on, but it also includes the things that He has desired for us. He says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

Just because what He has assigned us to do doesn’t line up with our plans, does not mean we should ignore it, need other’s approval of it or move on it when we feel like it. Pastor Mike Todd, from Transformation Church in Tusla, OK said something in one of his sermons a couple of weeks ago that hit me really hard. He said, “slow obedience is still disobedience.” Just think about the children of Israel (that were under Moses’ leadership) and how they refused to go into the Promised Land (the land of milk and honey) because of the Giants that lived there. And because they had very little faith in God, amongst so many other things, He denied them access for 40 years. A trip that should have taken 11 days took them 40 years because of their disobedience (SHAMELESS PLUG: To hear further elaboration on this story, tune into the Bethany Missionary Baptist Church channel on YouTube to listen in on my Sunday School lesson this Sunday, October 31st @ 9:30am. I will be teaching on this very topic……Okay, I digress)!

God will never assign us to do something and don’t carry out on His promises of being there for us every step of the way. When those challenging assignments come, trust that God already knows what’s on the other side of the assignment and that He will equip you along the way.

So, I said all of that to say this SO WHAT, what other people think. Do you and trust God!

Love Always,

Tamika
